    As of Nov. 25 the war in Iraq lasted longer than the U.S. involvement in WWII. The Iraq war began on March 19, 2003, with the United States bombing Baghdad. Only a few months later on May 1, Bush declared the major combat operation of the war over. He announced this on an aircraft carrier with a "Mission Accomplished" banner.
